The bylaws of Duke University call for the election of 12 of its trustees by the graduates of the university. These individuals will be approved for submission to the alumni body, with additional nominations permitted by petition. Once the slate of nominees is announced, alumni will have 30 days to submit a petition signed by one-half of one percent of the alumni body to nominate additional candidates.
