LEARNING TO TEACH: “Coming to Duke, I had a keen interest in education, despite having limited experience teaching. As a student, I was able to explore this interest through teaching assistantships, the certificate in College Teaching, and through nontraditional teaching engagements like the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, where I taught ‘grown-ups’ about neurotechnology. I just love learning, and the best way to learn is to teach!”

SHE'S BACK: “I've worked with the largest companies in the world to design and deploy AI (pre ChatGPT). While I enjoyed designing cutting-edge algorithms for global products, I also noticed challenges with how AI was being developed. Many of these challenges came not from malice, but from a lack of education on the responsible development and use of the technology. I believe education is the place to have the most significant impact, so that’s why I am here. If I encourage 50 students to adopt responsible AI development practices, and they go out and share it with 10 people, and they go on to share it with 10 more people, suddenly thousands of people are being more responsible with their development and use of AI.”

FUTURE DREAM: "How about a Netflix series on AI for everyone?"
